Civic Council was founded in 2003 as a nonprofit, nonpartisan
organization with the purpose of alerting the public to national
and international issues, promoting citizens' active involvement
in civic life, and serving as a grassroots advocate to decision
makers. Our primary focus is Seniors' issues and helping Seniors
live a productive and rich life.
Our Mission
Civic Council is dedicated to improving the lives of all
people everywhere through public awareness and issue advocacy.
A key goal is to mobilize citizens and provide them with a
strong voice in Washington. We seek to educate Americans on
the issues so they can make informed decisions and take an
active role in shaping the domestic and foreign policies that
impact their lives. To fulfill that goal, we encourage regular
communication with elected leaders and appointed policymakers,
as well as increased involvement in all civic matters. Further,
we are committed to educating Americans about international
matters, including security threats and humanitarian needs
in developing countries, and encourage donations to support
charitable activities that address these needs.
Our Activities
We oversee a variety of programs
that benefit seniors and address economic, health and security
issues. We advocate for issues that are important to seniors,
such as a fair COLA awarded on their social security payments
yearly, preserving social security funds for US citizens and
legal residents only, and permanent elimination of the death
tax. We also support a number of projects
consistent with our purposes, including the Seniors
Resource Center that provides seniors with classes on
using computers and programs that will help them cope with
modern demands in the workplace.
We also sponsor philanthropic projects, such as Zambia Hope
International, which provides assistance and teaches self-reliance
to children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. You can discover how you
can help at www.ZambiaHope.org.
Our efforts include conducting research on the issues; monitoring
national legislation and encouraging action when appropriate;
meeting with members of Congress, ambassadors, federal administrators,
foreign officials, the military and the media; publishing
reports and white papers; hosting fact-finding trips; sponsoring
seminars; providing informational materials for grassroots
activism; promoting humanitarian aid.
Our Management
A three-member board of directors oversees the organization.
The board appoints directors to administer the individual
programs and manage their projects. We do not have a salaried,
full-time staff.
